Serendipity
2021-Present
The series of serendipity paintings represent rhythmic serenity, responding to intuitive sensation of feelings and emotions reacting to the colour inspired from landscapes. Ironically, colourful lines against monochromatic layers of colour suggest playful and joyful moment of desire where as the muted back ground is the opposite, the moment of calmness and emptiness in mind.
Modified with simplicity, enhanced with minimal and monochromatic colour, added with playfulness of drawings, I invite viewers to connect with their own emotions and feelings, either playful or tranquil, however they feel through the intimacy of looking at the painting.
The Story of an Artist
There are many artists in the world. I am not genius; I am not famous. It is not me who determine what kind of an artist I am, but the critique of others.
Part 1. Incident
Part 2. Solitude
Part 3. Silence
Part 4. Comfort
Part 5. Monologue
Perhaps the so-called eccentric character of an artist comes from the prejudice of what is being special or different from others. Sometimes it brings me a discomfort when others believe that my art is not that special, not much different from what others are already doing. What is the definition of being a special and recognized artist?
Part 6. Spin-off. Confession
We can remember most of things that we see. And whatever that is not visible, we can imagine. When we see a painting, we can always go beyond the frame in our imagination. According to the statistics, viewers normally spend average about 20 seconds to see a painting in a museum. Even if an artist spends hours or days to complete a painting, judgement can be still done within 20 seconds.
My exhibition starts with a pause. Viewers come into the gallery and confront the painting with silence and solitude. The space is calm, still, muted but somehow it brings up vitality from the painting. Whatever the message they get from the painting is totally up to them. Yet, the colour, space, time and the sensitiveness attracts viewers to come closer to look and experience the visual dialogue in comfort.
