Part I. Fragmented

2015-2021

Colour. Collage. Landscape. Mystery. Timeless. Memory.

The use of leftover canvas started years back in the studio where I suddenly question myself what to do with them since I did not waste or throw them away. I started to cut them into pieces and puzzled them around as if I want to make something out of it. Then this small project became a major interest that I explore and develop further; eventually I even started cutting finished paintings to rearrange, reassemble and recreate.

Those canvas pieces I use, either cut out from finished paintings or recycled leftover strips, conceal the originality yet contribute to create a new image. The image is still connected with the theme of abstract mind and where viewers can imagine the presence of landscape as my other paintings are.

Gathering recycled pieces parallel with recollecting fragmented memories. Each piece may be unique as it is, however, the mystery of the new image is invented through manipulation, juxtaposition and imagination.

Using the method of collage, I play with recycled pieces which act as a metaphoric visual cue for imaginary space or landscapes. By doing so, the progress itself becomes a notion of building new memories. These paintings are quite tiny in size, so I invite the viewers to come closer and visually enter the imaginary colour field in the presence of timelessness, placeless and the mystery.
