Sound of Silence

Nov 21-25, 2012. The Little Gallery, Department of Art University of Calgary

When it is silent, we tend to pay more attention to the sound. It can be the sound which we are unaware of, or it may be the sound that we make ourselves. In silence, we are more careful about making sound. Silence becomes another form of sound. In modern society, we are exposed to sound and noises all the time. It is very difficult to find the moment of absolute silence; maybe there isn't any.

The series of paintings represent visual images of subtle, lingering, vibrating sound as well as after- sound to suggest the sound of silence. At the same time, it is my own reflection and response to the concept of silence and sound. My challenge is to create a coexistent moment of silence and sound where viewers are invited to experience silence followed by visualizing their own sound of silence.
